2012: I am a 28 year old graduate student who went to Japan and discovered a love of teaching, which combined in powerful alchemy with my feelings about self-agency and being able to communicate needs and desires. So instead of becoming a zookeeper I decided to go back to school to become a teacher of English to speakers of other languages in the United States. This is the story of my internship and beyond~
2010: I was a 23-year old girl from the state of Maine, USA, who somehow got it into her head that it would be interesting to wander across the world to Japan to teach English. And there I was. 23-years-old, and part of the JET programme, which sends college graduates and others from English-speaking countries to Japanese schools to assist with the teaching of English. Imported diversity and cultural relations. It was a ride and a half involving beavers and other strange props.
